INDEPENDENTLY PUBLISHED AUTHOR FROM DETROIT WINS
THE INTERNATIONAL BOOK AWARD
Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream is Winner of the 2012 International Book Award in African American Studies
It’s unusual for a religious book, steeped with biblical scripture quotations and doctrinal teachings, to win an industry recognized secular book award; not once…but twice! But this is exactly the case when it comes to Christian Author Elreta Dodds and her latest book, Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream.

Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream (subtitled, From Slavery to Obama: A Frank Discussion, from a Christian Perspective, on Racism in America, and its effect on Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness) is Winner of the 2012 International Book Award in African American Studies. The awards were announced on May 22, 2012. This is the book’s second industry recognized award. Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream is also winner of the 2011 National Indie Excellence Book Award in Social Change.

Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream refutes the popular notion that the Bible condones racism and attempts to redirect, as many as possible, those who erroneously use the Bible as a weapon to justify racial hatred. The book challenges the concept of race by presenting strong argument, biblically and scientifically, that we, as human beings, are not significantly physiologically different from one another and points out the biblical passages that teach that God is not a respecter of persons and that he does not play favorites. Consequently, the uniqueness of the book centers around the declaration of its author that racism is not just a social issue, but it is a moral issue as well.

The book also provides an extensive history of the practice of discrimination/racism in America, beginning with the attempted ethnic cleansing of Native Americans by European occupiers in the 1400s, through to the onset of the enslavement of Africans, the development of the Unites States Constitution, the practice of Jim Crow, the Civil Rights Movement, and on up to the election of President Barack Obama in conjunction with the types of backlash he has received that many believe much of which stems from racist sentiments. The book presents a candid and detailed look at institutional/systematic racism as it stands now in America and also provides information on certain religions that identify themselves as Christian, but are not (such as Christian Identity and Mormonism), and are riddled with racist teachings.

The information in the book provides a great deal of reference material as to what the Bible really teaches about racism, and gives an exhaustive history of racial struggles in America from the time of slavery until now (not taught in American high schools). The book also exposes the permeation of covert institutional/systematic racism that continues to exist in America thereby creating and sustaining questionable racial disparities in the American justice system, the education system, the political system, and a whole host of other systems.

Elreta Dodds, author and social commentator, is an ordained Minister and is an Assistant Minister of Lifechurch Southfield (Southfield Michigan) where Alan Tumpkin serves as Pastor. Dodds is a Licensed Professional Counselor, Board Certified by the American Psychotherapy Association, and is also licensed by the state of Michigan as a Masters Social Worker with specialties in clinical and macro practices. Dodds possesses a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling as well as a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, both of which were obtained from Wayne State University, where she graduated with Honors. Dodds is an Adjunct Instructor at Siena Heights University where she teaches courses in Community Services.

Racism, The Bible, and The American Dream is available at online bookstores (e.g. Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com,) and wherever books are sold and retails for $17.95 at 380 pages.
